Charlie: Daddy, I want you to chase me around the house 10 times.
Mark: Charlie, I’m tired. How about I chase you around the house three times?
Charlie: How about six times?
Later that night….
(But first a little back story: yesterday we bought Charlie a piggy bank. While he was putting a bunch of loose change in it, I told him he could use the piggy bank to save some money and buy something for himself).
Me: What would you like to buy?
Charlie: A choo choo train and a lot of freight cars.
Me: OK. You’re going to have to save your money. A choo choo train and freight cars cost a lot of money.
Charlie: But how do I get more money?
Me: Well, you could earn some money. We could give you some jobs to do and we’d give you a little money. Would you like that?
Charlie: Um…no. I want more money now.
Me: Well, we could give you a little money for your birthday and then you could start saving for the trains. Would you like that?
Charlie: Momma, why don’t you just give me the trains for my birthday?
