The other day I was having a casual conversation with my friend Jon at work. He happened to mention the Verizon Wireless discount he gets through being an employee at our institution. Say what?! That’s when Jon said that Verizon Wireless offers a 19% discount off service plans and 25% discount on accessories, and didn’t I know about this discount? Uh, no, I did not. To put this revelation in perspective, I’ve worked at my current place of employment for six years and I’ve been a Verizon Wireless customer for longer than that. I don’t even want to calculate the amount of money I could have saved over the past six years had I known about this discount. Well, that’s when Jon really socked it to me — our employer’s human resources department has an entire section devoted to employee discount programs that includes discounts for restaurants, theaters, rental cars, automotive repair, various shops around town, and many other services. Oh my.
Yesterday I was in our local mall and wandered over to the Verizon Wireless kiosk to asked about the discount program. A few minutes later, my discount was all in place (although it won’t take effect for another billing cycle).
So now I’m here blogging so you can learn from my mistake: find out if your company has employee discount programs — you never know how you might be able to save money on items or services you already purchase.
