A few weeks ago my coworker happened to mention that her teenage son needed to earn some money this summer. I casually mentioned that he could come do some work at our house since we have tons of projects around. He came over this weekend for four hours. In that time, he worked on three huge tasks, two of which we’d been putting off for, well, years. First, he completely dug up a 10 foot shrub in our front yard that I’ve always hated (in fact, I wrote about it here), then he removed about 40 square feet of nandina which was invading everything around it, and finally, he spread lots and lots of mulch.
He was efficient and energetic. It would have taken Mark and me (with our aging bodies) a lot longer to do these jobs. In fact, as our teenage worker was pulling out of our driveway, Mark sighed, “Wow, he’s not even going to be sore tomorrow.”
